All About the Sunset Strip According to Mike
Check us out on Google My Business. The city of West Hollywood is approximately 1.888 square miles big, wedged in between the posh Beverly Hills and West Los Angeles. Despite its small size, West Hollywood has many streets that are filled with life from its roaring nightclubs to its famous tourist attractions.
One of the more well known streets to Mike in West Hollywood is “The Sunset Strip.” The name refers to the one and a half mile region of Sunset Boulevard that crosses through West Hollywood. It has a notorious reputation for its nightlife with many entertainment attractions.
The Roxy Theatre is just one of the many iconic music venues on the strip. The Roxy Theatre was opened up on September 20th, 1973 and fulfilled the dream of owners, Lou Adler and Elmer Valentine, in an honest and welcoming venue for all musical acts of all genres. It is within walking distance of Ehline Law Firm.
It was also a stage where many comedians got their start. Comedians such as Pee Wee Herman, David Letterman and Jay Leno got their start here. In addition to the great musical acts that have performed there like Bob Marley & The Wailers, The Rocky Horror Picture Show performed there in 1974. Today, The Roxy Theatre has a world renowned reputation and continues to house great performances.
Before Elmer Valentine founded the Roxy Theatre, he opened a club on Sunset Boulevard called Whisky A Go Go. Whisky A Go Go was opened in 1964 and was the first club of its kind. Elmer Valentine was an artistic visionary who created the “Go Go Girl” trend with girls dancing in cages in mini skirts and below-the-knee boots.
It was also the place where many infamous Rock’n’Roll gods got their start. Another famous place on the Sunset Strip, is the hotel Chateau Marmont. This hotel was built at 8221 Sunset Boulevard in 1929. It’s unique and memorable architecture was inspired by a castle located in the Loire Valley, France. The hotel had its many cameos throughout cinema, music, and literature.
